A dc Method for the Absolute Determination of Conductivities of the Primary Standard

National Office of Measures, Budapest, Hungaiy A new method for the absolute determination of electrolytic Conductivity based on direct current and potcntiomctrlc measurements is described. The unique design of the cell uses a removable center section whose length and crosS'Seciional area arc accurately known. Two pairs of matched Ag, AgCI electrodes are used in a four terminal mode of resistance measurement. Measurements of the electrolytic conductivity of primary standard potassium chloride solution using this novel dc conductance cell arc compared with the currently adopted I UP AC and OIML recommendations. In addition^ measurements have been made of the electrolytic conductivity of a solution of potassium chloride having a molality of 1 mol/lcg (mole KQ per kilogram HiO). The values so obtained over the temperature range of O'C to 50 "C are recommended as the new primary standard:; for electrolytic conductivity.
